Since we opened just over a year ago now we've been surprised by just how much you guys like your American sweets!
It seems we're not the only ones however as now the big supermarkets have got in on the act with more and more "American" products hitting the shelves of your local supermarket. We often get asked in store why we're selling products readily available in UK supermarkets for more than they may be charging.
The reason is we only sell 100% genuine American imported products which the supermarkets or other shops don't.
Here's some examples.
- Hershey's / Reese's at ASDA, Sainsbury's and Tesco
The packaging of these products looks pretty much the same as the original US ones, however take a quick look at the back and you'll see ingredients lists for the UK, Chile and China.
The reason for this is these bars are made to a different recipe to their original American counterparts and are targeted at markets outside the US.
The original Hershey bar has somewhat of an acquired taste and it seems most Brits don't like it hence the need for a recipe change.
Beware of some "Traditional" or other sweet shops selling these English bars for the same price you'd expect to pay for an actual American imported bar.
Anyone who has actually tried the original American dew knows the English energy version doesn't even come close.
- Skittles Crazy Cores / Skittles Sour
We love Skittles crazy cores ever since we first tried them and so when we found them in a local shop we thought we'd give the English version a try.
As with Hershey's these are made for the UK market and the taste doesn't quite match up to the original American candy due to a change in recipe.
As for Skittles Sour pick up a pack in store and you'll feel the difference between the American version we sell and the English ones immediately.
They're coated in a sour sugar like substance that makes the sourness pretty much eye watering!.
They're the products we're aware of at present however should any more crop up we'll give them a try and let you know what we think.
We'd also like to warn you about fake Wonka bars.
It was brought to our attention recently that certain shops are selling a chocolate bar with the Wonka branding (see picture) and we ourselves were offered the opportunity to buy these bars wholesale.

Fake Wonka bar |
We obviously chose not to as we only stock 100% original American imported products but not only this the bar is being made illegally.
Nestle own the license to use the Wonka name in confectionery throughout America & the UK but more serious than this the items are being made by an unknown manufacturer with no assurance as to whether food hygiene regulations are being adhered to.

100% Officially licensed Wonka Bar |
The bars offer no ingredients list or allergy information which caused a problem for one of our customers when they purchased one of these bars in Doncaster only for their young daughter to become violently ill.
Our advice is to stay well clear!
